Larry Berry Obituary, MARKS, Miss. — Larry Berry, 35, has passed away after authorities found him with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a wooded area of Marks, Mississippi, following an extensive search connected to a fatal shooting at the Trinity Lakes Apartments in Cordova, Tennessee.
Per to agencies, Memphis Police Department officers responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday to a noted shooting in the 7900 block of Racquetball Lane at the Trinity Lakes Apartments near Germantown Parkway. When officers arrived, they identified a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified by loved ones individuals and friends online as Tavia Jackson, also known in social media posts as KePassionate “KP” Butler. Authorities had not immediately released an official identification. Detectives investigating the shooting determined that the victim’s two children were missing and reportedly identified Berry as the children’s father.
Investigators stated Berry had reportedly taken the children from the area in a black Mercedes sedan, prompting an extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The two children were later found safe at a residence in Robinsonville, Mississippi, before an Endangered Child Alert could be issued. Authorities did not report injuries to either child.
The search for Berry continued for several hours before officials located him in a wooded area of Marks, Mississippi. The Quitman County Sheriff’s Office transported him to a local hospital in critical condition after he was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Berry later lost her life from his injuries.
Berry was also identified in a handful of reports as Martez Berry. Agencies have not publicly released additional details about when or how the gunshot wound occurred. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under probe as detectives continue working to establish a complete timeline of the events.
