Richard Jobes Obituary, HARRINGTON, Del. — Richard Jobes, 62, of Harrington, Delaware, was fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide involving his 36-year-old son, Richard Jobes II, early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers responded at approximately 3 a.m. to the 200 block of Whiteleysburg Road near the Maryland state line after receiving a update of two unresponsive people found in a ditch. Upon arrival, agencies discovered two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators identified the older man as Richard Jobes, 62, and determined that he had been fatally shot. His son, Richard Jobes II, 36, was found with what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Both men passed away as a result of their injuries. Delaware State Police announced Thursday, August 27, that Richard Jobes was the murder victim and that investigators determined Richard Jobes II died by suicide.
Officials have confirmed that the two men were father and son. However, investigators have not released additional details about what led to the shooting or what circumstances preceded the deaths.
The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case and is working to establish a complete timeline. Detectives are reviewing evidence and gathering information to determine what happened before the two men were discovered along Whiteleysburg Road. No possible motive has been released.
